Alice in Wonderland Collection

THE ROYAL MINT @ JONESMILLBANK

THE BRIEF

Promotional launch of The Royal Mint's series of coins commemorating Alice in Wonderland,in partnership with the V&A in London.

Created with the Jones Millbank team. I participated in the creative team to figure out the world of Wonderland, creating a physical prop to the animated world, as well as the collaboration with the production team to create the world within the book using the original illustrations. I was also in charge of the full edit, SFX and colour grading with Da Vinci Resolve.

It was a great honour to work on this project from beginning to the final delivery, having the chance to experiment a combination of techniques to bring the narrative to the next level.

DOWN DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

In order to create the transition from the real world to Wonderland, we decided to create a rabbit hole that travels through and bring Alice into the book. To achieve this in the most magical and tactile way, we moved away from CGI and created the entire transition gluing old books from charity shops and few pages of Alice in Wonderland. If you look close enough you can read the phrase including the phrase "Down Down Down, would the fall never come to an end?".

INSIDE WONDERLAND

As the commercial was going to be in TV and tell an entire journey inside and outside Wonderland in 60s, the section inside the book couldn't be more than 20s. Luckily we were given permission to use the original illustrations and graphics from the first edition.

To resemble the original book, the typography makes a character on it's own, supporting the actions of the characters. In this way we made sure there was a glimpse of the journey that Alice goes through by focusing on two symbolic moments.

COLOUR GRADING/SOCIALS

To make sure the atmosphere created by the amazing filmmaking team in the beautiful bookshop setting was enhanced and matching the magical feeling, all the colour correction was done in DaVinci Resolve.

Socials cuts of 10s and 30s where created from the main film.
